I remember the very first time I traveled down this road. I had gone to Uganda to see if God would show me why I felt He was calling me there. That was 8 years ago. He has shown me so much about myself. About His people. But, more importantly, about Himself. I had no idea what I'd signed up for. Nobody does, really. We just go. We just go because He has called us.

This journey couldn't be more different than how I pictured my life going. What happened to me 8 years ago was never about "asking Jesus into my heart." It was about total surrender. Putting myself on the altar and saying to Him, "Here I am. Use me." And that, friends, will flip your life upside down.

  1. A few months ago, George visited 3 villages in Tororo, close to the Ugandan/Kenyan border. He went to share the Gospel but he never just shares about Jesus and leaves. As he sat with the people to better understand their struggles, he was told of the heartbreaking realities they face. People are dying of starvation and lack of water. They are losing so many of the elderly and babies within their communities. As he sat listening, he prayed for God to show him how he could help.

He met many, many people like this woman. She is nearing 70 and raising her grandson after losing her daughter recently. She's a jajja (grandmother). She worries how to feed him and how to keep him hydrated. It was so painful to hear story after story like hers.

    He also visited this family.

They've lost so many friends and family recently and the mom is just thankful she can still breastfeed her baby, though she is sick a lot from the water source closest to her home, which collects runoff that has passed over animal feces when it rains. She was going to get more water and he asked to go along. They trekked deep into the bush, far from most of the homes. Here's one of the places from which they get water:

Can you imagine this being the water you drink? The only water you have available to give your babies? The water you bathe with?

These people became very heavy on his heart. The Lord led George hours from home to hear these stories for a reason.

He knew he had to do something.

    But what could he do?

Many years ago, we started a little birthday tradition to always celebrate our lives on that day by inviting someone else in to share it. This year he is inviting each one of you to partner with these communities.

He wants to bring clean water by drilling 2 boreholes. A borehole is a type of well that is drilled deep down into the water that is not accessible from the surface. By keeping the water in a closed system until it reaches the tap, the interaction of that water with surface pollutants is minimized. This type of well is the most reliable and secure source of clean water for people. We have drilled 2 in our village and we know firsthand the life they bring.

    our village

We have an incredible drilling team so he confirmed a date they could return and in the mean time met with the community to sort details - where could we possibly drill and any land issues to work through, who will educate the people on sanitation, who will monitor the borehole on a daily basis, how will it be protected from animals, etc. The process is long on our end but once drilling is done and we leave, the community receiving the boreholes has to absolutely be fully engaged and empowered to take care of them.

Many meetings and weeks later, he returned with the drilling team. Word spread like wildfire and they picked up quite a long line of followers, eager to watch the process unfold of how clean water might be coming to their communities.

The hydrogeologist tested each possible site and found the most perfect ones.

While George waited for the drilling team to finish up evaluating, he heard countless stories from the people about how this could change their lives. They don't really know because they've never had clean water.

    But they're full of hope.

Can you help us raise $14,000 for George's birthday?

This will cover materials (cement, pipes, pumps, construction supplies), pay our local staff (drillers, welders, well techs and hydrogeologist) and mobilization (fuel, vehicles, internet).

His birthday is in 2 weeks but we can start drilling as soon as the money comes in for the 1st borehole! The team is on standby! The sooner these boreholes are drilled, the sooner these people have access to clean water and the sooner their lives will change!

If you want to be part of this life-changing opportunity to get clean, safe water into these communities and help us to eliminate many of the waterborne and preventable diseases they are dying from, here's your chance to respond with a tax-deductible donation:

You can also mail us a check and we will receive 100% of your donation! Please let us know it's on the way so we can keep that in mind when sharing the daily updated total.

  2. Mastula in 2010 and today. God called us into ministry to watch life be breathed back into children who had no reason to hope. Thank you for continuing to partner with us.

  3. For 8 years now, I have advocated for the children who attend our primary school, Ekubo Christian Academy, the ones we send to secondary school, and the ones, PRAISE GOD, who get the unbelievable gift of attending University.

Education, nutrition, medical care, clean water. All things I used to take for granted. All things you can provide for a child in our program.

Families never in their lives dreamed their children would go to primary school, let alone secondary or University.

Y'all have given financially so that we could be the hands and feet of Jesus.

  4. 8 years ago, we pulled into the village for the 1st time and I met 10-lb, 2-year-old Maria. If one single child represents the heart of our ministry it would be this girl. We can stand on the mountain and testify to His goodness. We can look down to the valley and see that back then as she fought to live and the enemy tried to destroy her, God used every single attempt for good. He continues to use her life to show His power and even through her story to bring the lost into His Kingdom.

  5. So many knocks at our gate with young girls holding babies in their arms. Desperate to find someone to take them. Girls who never had a chance to get an education and were sold into sex trafficking or forced into early marriage. When you partner with us to educate vulnerable girls, you rewrite their stories.

  6. Warfare wages around me and the Bible reminds me that He gives His toughest battles to His strongest warriors. And I think to myself how very weak I am and He's mistaken. But He's not. He sees something in me that I don't see in myself. For so many years I was lost. It wasn't until I let go that I found life. It wasn't until I surrendered to Jesus that I started living. It hasn't been easy. Matter of fact, some days are impossible.

As long I do my own thing, keep my faith in Jesus to myself, I'll face little risk in this world. The only problem is I'll know so very little of Christ. I want to know Christ. I want my life to be one of bold surrender. I want to continue to give my life for the spread of the Gospel. It''s left me very isolated but that's only when I look to the world. He's never left me. I just can't see Him when I'm looking at the world.

The world offers death. Jesus offers life. Which will you choose?

  7. I know many, many ministry and/or organization leaders who refuse to share publicly when things are not going well. Those things are shared with their sending churches but not on their Facebook pages or Instagram feeds. They say it kills momentum and people are more likely to give when it's exciting.

There is nothing exciting about being so far behind in funding and coming up on the end of the month when salaries need to be paid. And no church sent me to Uganda. THE CHURCH is you. For 8 years now, people have given $5, $10, $50, $300, $1000, or whatever the Lord moved them to give and BY HIS GRACE we are still standing.

I don't know the "right way" to do this. So I keep inviting y'all to be a part of changing Uganda at an intimate level - through educating a child who will then educate his family when he goes home at the end of the school day.

Transforming individuals who will transform families who will transform communities who will transform Uganda and maybe even the world.

  8. You are not forgotten. You are not set aside. You are SET APART for such a time as this. Keep praying. Keep trusting. God answers in His timing.

  9. On paper she's his aunt. But she's raised him for so long that she forgets that part. It's the same for most every family we serve. Love trumps biology.

People don't respond with "but they're not our children" when asked to take on relatives or even strangers.

School started back today. 2nd term of the year.

Will you come alongside these families and give the gift of an education? It can truly change the trajectory of their lives.

  10. Let us not be counted among those who protect themselves from the needs of others. Let us not be found among those who isolate and insulate themselves from the needs of those around us. They are here. They are there. People are in need of Jesus everywhere we go. Let us not be counted among those who become so self-involved - so consumed with busyness that we pass by them.
